Trinidad 2009 - Sunday

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Church started at 9:00 a.m.  We finished about 12:30 p.m.  My host family let me sleep in until 7:00.  They got up at 5:00 to start cooking dinner because they have invited the pastor and his wife plus another lady.  With their married children, we had ten for lunch.  Dr. Rivers is a good cook.  I am afraid I am going to gain a lot of weight here this week.

We had a wonderful service this morning.  The church was packed.  There must have been 500-600 in attendance. The Missions Convention began with a Parade of Nations by the children of the church.  They marched across the front of the sanctuary carrying the flags of the nations as a group of teen girls, dressed in various costumes from around the world, danced.  When the announcer was calling the names of the different nations in Asia, the girls all used fans and danced an Asia dance.  But as the name of another country in Asia was called, the teens would quit doing the dance they were doing, and do a different dance for the other Asia country, but using the same fan.  For Africa, they did a different step for each country, the same for Latin America, and then for the Caribbean.  It was great.

The church responded so well to my message, hanging onto every word.  We then had a great altar service.

Tonight, since there was no service at the church, Dr. Pearl Rivers (my host) took me to an outstation she pastors.  There were probably 30 people meeting in a carport of a home.  The response to my message was as great as this morning.  Trinidad is poised on the verge of great things for missions and it is such a privilege to be a part of it all.
