Did I send out a virus?

I have been getting several email with the subject line: Check out my photos on FB.  I have no idea what that is about.  It may be a virus.

Glory!

When I went to the doctor today, he said that I have healed nicely, took out the one-inch PVC pipe and said, if you can urinate on your own, I will let you go home.  Glory!  I did and came home.  He said he did not want to take out the stone hoping that maybe it will pass on its own now that I am healed up on the inside.  Thank you so much for your prayers.  It feels wonderful to be back in the land of the living instead of being bedridden.  I even drove home from the doctor's office.  My wife has been having to taxi me everywhere.  She has really been a blessing to this big baby.

Run over by a freight train

I thought that light at the end of the tunnel was the end -  it was not -  It was a freight train.

Today started out beautifully, but on one trip, everything completely stopped in midstream except the feeling of a razorblade tearing my flesh.  I quickly drank two 20 oz. bottles of water to try and flush a lodged stone, but to no avail.  I phoned the doctor and he said to come to his office immediately.

To make a terrible story even more terrible, I am now back home with a 1 inch PVC pipe and a 33-gallon garbage bag which I must wear for two weeks until my insides heal, at which time I have the privilege of getting hit with a sledge hammer again. Glory!

The good news is that after looking inside me with a scope again, the doctor said that this stone is the last one.  He made a valiant effort to remove it today but to no avail.  I still desperately need your prayers.

Hit by a sledgehammer

After I was knocked out, ready for surgery, they apparently told me to bend over and touch my ankles.  Then they hit me on the backside three times with a sledgehammer, trying to break up the bladder stones.    Then they inserted a one-inch in diameter PVC pipe up me, attached to a huge 33-gallon garbage bag, and sent me to my hospital room.  At least that's what it felt like to me when I woke up after the surgery.

Seriously, the doctor was amazed.  He had counted 60-70 stones when he had done a scope weeks before, but when he actually started taking them out, there were over 200.  He brought them out into the waiting room and showed them to my wife and children.

Yesterday they removed the tube and bag, so I am beginning to feel more like a human being now.  It was rough.  Thank you so much for your prayers.  I think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Computers and Surgery

We donated 16 computers today to the Bolivia Life Center in Bolivia, South America.  The orphanage is located in Sipe, about an hour outside Cochabamba, Bolivia. It is currently home to 76 abused and abandoned boys. Children's International Network's vision and plan is to house 200 boys at the Bolivia Life Center. CIN is committed to raising the boys through adulthood and providing for all their needs along the way. These needs include education, food, shelter, medical, counseling, and faith guidance. The Bolivia Life Center has an onsite library, medical clinic and life-training workshop including, now, computers. Glory! Each boy receives an average three hours of additional tutoring beyond the typical Bolivian half day of school. The Department of Children & Families routinely checks the Life Center and it has consistently received high ratings. The employee to child ratio is 25 staff to 76 boys.

Tomorrow I go into the hospital for surgery.  My urologist found 60-70 bladder stones, so tomorrow they come out.  I should only be in the hospital overnight.  Please pray for me.

Trinidad 2009 - Sunday

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Church started at 9:00 a.m.  We finished about 12:30 p.m.  My host family let me sleep in until 7:00.  They got up at 5:00 to start cooking dinner because they have invited the pastor and his wife plus another lady.  With their married children, we had ten for lunch.  Dr. Rivers is a good cook.  I am afraid I am going to gain a lot of weight here this week.

We had a wonderful service this morning.  The church was packed.  There must have been 500-600 in attendance. The Missions Convention began with a Parade of Nations by the children of the church.  They marched across the front of the sanctuary carrying the flags of the nations as a group of teen girls, dressed in various costumes from around the world, danced.  When the announcer was calling the names of the different nations in Asia, the girls all used fans and danced an Asia dance.  But as the name of another country in Asia was called, the teens would quit doing the dance they were doing, and do a different dance for the other Asia country, but using the same fan.  For Africa, they did a different step for each country, the same for Latin America, and then for the Caribbean.  It was great.

The church responded so well to my message, hanging onto every word.  We then had a great altar service.

Tonight, since there was no service at the church, Dr. Pearl Rivers (my host) took me to an outstation she pastors.  There were probably 30 people meeting in a carport of a home.  The response to my message was as great as this morning.  Trinidad is poised on the verge of great things for missions and it is such a privilege to be a part of it all.

Trinidad 2009 - Saturday

                                                                       Trinidad - 2009

Saturday, May 25, 2009

I left Lakeland at 3:30 a.m. to get to the Orlando airport at 5:30 to arrive an hour and a half before a flight to Miami.  Everything went smoothly.  However, when I arrived in Miami, I looked on my boarding pass and noticed that I only had thirty minutes to get to the gate for my flight to Port of Spain, Trinidad before it boarded.  I was wondering how I could make such a connection, but to my great surprise, my departure gate was exactly one gate from my arrival gate.   It was great.

When I arrived in Port of Spain, Karenmay Johnson, the Missions Manager for Bethel World Ministries Outreach in Arimia, Trinidad (a Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies church), met me at the airport as well as Tommy Smith, the Maintenance Manager for church.  Tommy put my suitcases in his SUV and took me to the home of the host family with whom I would be staying for the Missions Convention, Mr. Samuel and Dr. Pearl Rivers.  They have a lovely two-story home and showed me to my room.

My room  is the one with the brown curtains in the windows

Karenmay Johnson picked me up about 6:30 to take me to the church to meet Dr. Irving Smith, the pastor.  We had a wonderful hour-long visit.  He is such a delightful gentleman.  After visiting with the pastor, I was taken to the sanctuary where members of the congregation were putting the finishing touches on the mission booths and decorations for the convention.  Before returning me to the River's home, Karenmay took me to see the DIAL, the famous clock located in the center of the street in Arima, Trinidad.  By 9:00 p.m., I turned in for the night.  It had been a long day. Praise the Lord for a safe and perfect trip.
