One Year Anniversary

 

Glory!  Investing in Futures is celebrating its first anniversary.  It has been a whirlwind year.  I have been able to minister in Venezuela, The Dominican Republic, Trinidad, and just last week, Tobago.  Also, we have given away over 750 computers, 750 desks, and seven pallets of text books plus a host of other stuff. 

 

We just returned from Valdosta today.  Mike Powers had told me that he thought we could get everything in Vance's horse trailer.  By the time we got there, Mike Powers said that everything had multiplied like the loaves and the fishes.  So my wife Gerry and I will be traveling up to Valdosta again tomorrow to begin putting everything on pallets for the semi which will arrive at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning.  I have a feeling it is going to take 3 or 4 semi loads to get all this stuff.  Isn't God good. 

 

 Requests are coming in from all over the world.  I have never seen anything like it.  Vance told me today that he has never been involved in anything in his life as exciting as this.  He has also applied for a passport for the first time in his life because he also wants to travel overseas with me.  God has really sent me a close, hardworking, friend in Vance.  Vance, thank you so much for all your hard work.  Mike Powers, thank you also for all the supplies you continue to entrusting to us to give out to the world. 

 

I can hardly wait to see what the second year holds!

Leave for Tobago Tomorrow

I am off for a four-day Missions Conference. I will be preaching eight times in four days. Please pray for me. There will be 50-100 pastors from all the Caribbean Islands coming to make plans for sending out missionaries from the Caribbean all over the world. What exciting days! Glory!

My Head Is Still Spinning

Wow. What a week and it is only Tuesday. Pastor Kelly Lacy phoned me Friday from Elizabeth City, North Carolina saying that he had won the bid on 500 school desks at a school auction and that I needed to come get them immediately. I send Bro. Phil Robinson of National Disaster Relief out of Jacksonville with his semi rig to North Carolina. Bro. Lacy told me there was no need for me to drive all the way up to North Carolina to help them load the truck, that he would handle it himself. And handle it he did. He had six to eight guys helping him and they had 400 desks loaded on the semi and Bro. Phil was on his way back to Florida in a little over an hour. That is some serious packing.

Pastor Kelly Lacy kept 100 desks with him in North Carolina and is going to deliver them to the Indian Reservation in Lumberton. Glory. What a pastor and what a vision. Pastor Lacy, thank you so much and thank you also for paying for the desks at the auction.

So yesterday (Monday), since I did not have to drive to North Carolina, Vance, Gary, Ernie, and I headed to Georgia at 6:00 a.m., loaded 75 computers, 100 monitors, and some printers into the horse trailer, and still arrived back home in Florida by 5:00 p.m.

Today, we four men met at the warehouse to unload the horse trailer. No more than thirty minutes after we finished unloading all the computers, Bro. Phil arrived from North Carolina and we then unloaded all the school desks. Pastor Lacy and his crew had really packed them in there. School desks must be loaded and unloaded one by one. There is no way to stack desks neatly on pallets. 400 desks are a lot of desks. By the time we finished unloading both vehicles, we were no longer perspiring, we were flat-out sweating. We finished around 1:00 p.m.

At 1:30, Pastor Franco Ferelon of Tampa Gospel Kingdom came to the warehouse to see about getting computers and desks for Haiti. Now isn't that just like God. And what timing. Now get this. Tomorrow we are going to load 165 desks that we just got today and take them to Bro. Ferelon’s church where he has a container ready to ship everything to Haiti. He is also getting 55 computers, 5 TVs, 20 computer desks, 2 typewriters, 2 filing cabinets, 20 inkjet printers and 20 laser printers. Glory. The warehouse is almost empty again. Isn't God good?

If all that is not enough to make your head spin, at about 2:15 p.m., I received a phone call requesting 100 computers for Mexico. At least I have been given one month to get this order ready.

Lord, I need more funds and more computers.

Container for Honduras

Glory! We did it. We really did it. The 40 foot container for Missionary Randy Herring arrived at 10:00 this morning and by 1:00 we had it totally loaded. What a job. There were five of us working; Vance Street, William Walker, Orton Queen, Dr. Johnny Strickland, and me. We did not take time for a bathroom break or even to get a drink of water because we did not know if we could really load all the stuff in the allotted three hours. But we did it. I want you to know that packing a 40 foot container is no small task. If you have ever packed a U-Haul truck or trailer, you know how you try to put things in every available space. Imagine doing that in a 40 foot container which is seven feet tall inside. But we packed it to the very back doors. As we put in the last items I told the guys I pity the person trying to unload it. You may want to pray for Missionary Randy Herring. That is going to be his task. Also pray that everything goes smoothly through customs.

A Day to Make Your Head Spin

I do not think more could have been crammed into this day. I left for Tampa at 8:00 a.m. to help Dr. Johnny Strickland with Network of Promise give out 450 boxes of food to the elderly living in the Tampa Housing Authority apartments. It is always rewarding to be involved in helping those lovely people.

On the drive to Tampa, I received a phone call from Pastor Kelly Lacy from North Carolina saying that he was at a school auction where they had 500 desks and 150 computers. He thought he had a good chance of getting them. Isn't that fantastic? What a great friend.

Missionary Bill Strickland from Honduras told me last week that I was on the cutting edge of where missions is going. He said that people want to personally get involved in missions, actually getting dirty for God. This was exactly what Pastor Lacy was doing, attending an auction to get supplies for missionaries. Bill Strickland also said that missionaries are thrilled that people are sending them things they desperately need. What a day to be alive.

All this is on top of having to go to Valdosta to pick up 150 computers there. Now here is where you come in. I desperately need some help financially for all the transportation costs. A semi to Valdosta costs $800 but going to North Carolina is going to take $2300. Help! I am finding out it is very expensive to be involved in missions. At least God has given us a warehouse free of charge. Many compassion ministries have to pay up to $12,000 a month just for warehousing. Isn't God good!

On the way home from Tampa, I received another phone call from the shipper who is providing a 40 foot container for Missionary Randy Herring from Honduras saying that the container arrived in Tampa today, that they will unload it from 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning and will then bring the container over to the warehouse for us to load it. They give us three hours to put in everything. So I went back to the warehouse and worked until 8:30 tonight getting everything for the container put up on the loading deck so we can save time in the morning.

As I said, it was a day to make your head spin, but that's what it is all about. Thank you so much for you interest and help.

My Wife is Graduating

My wife and I will be leaving tomorrow morning for Springfield, Missouri where my wife will received her Doctorate of Ministry degree. Glory! It has been a long hard struggle, but she is finally finished. You may want to send your congratulations at gawhite@seuniversity.edu. I am so proud of her.
