Container arrives in El Salvador

April 14, 2008

Good Morning Rodney!

The container finally arrived at our school in El Salvador.

We started passing out all the shoes, the T-shirts, and the big soft pillow toys yesterday.  I wish you could have been there to see all the excitement.  The hard work you and your team did is really appreciated, not only by Henry and Me, but also by 152 kids who went home happy yesterday.  The staffers helped put everything in its place plus they tried the shoes on every child and handed them their new things.  The staffers were as happy as the kids!

All those MREs, toilet paper, computers, the big copy machine, etc., all are such a big blessing to us, and will save us a bundle of funds that stretches to cover a lot of needs here.

We also want to thank Dr. Johnny Strickland of Network of Promise who put his whole heart into getting this container to us, and to Jack Williams and to Kingdom Community Outreach Network who helped raise the funds for shipping the container.  He has always had a burden to help our ministry.  He has visited us here in El Salvador and loves these kids.

Sincere thanks again for all your sweat and love for the Lord's work.

Desks and Socks

I received a phone call Tuesday from an Optometrist in Clearwater who was downsizing his practice and moving from a seven-room office suite to a smaller place.  He gave us all the desks, chairs, and filing cabinets from the seven offices plus a few folding tables and office machines.  Chris Comellas worked with Vance and me all day and we loaded everything onto the horse trailer and brought it to the warehouse.  It was a full days job.  Thanks so Chris, for your hard work and thanks to Dr. Robb for his gift to Investing in Futures.

Today, Wednesday, three ladies from St. John United Methodist Church came and worked with us putting socks together.  Thanks so much to Mrs. Piles, Mrs. Garcia, and Mrs. Ernest.  They put in a good days work.

When the ladies arrived, they told us that their pastor, Sabrina Tu, challenged them to give up something for Lent that would cost them something and recommended that church members give away their favorite shirt or blouse.  So the ladies presented Investing in Futures all the shirts and blouses from the church to give to people overseas.  Great idea Pastor Tu!  Thanks ladies for your labor of love today.  They also brought us several computers and a big package of diapers.

Things we found in socks

Vance and Sharon finished attaching a lot of pairs of socks today.  We only have four more pallets to go.  So far, William Walker, who worked with us one day, found a $1.00 bill in a sock, Sharon found a packet of carrot seeds, and Vance found a $5.00 bill.  We gave the money to Dr. Johnny Strickland for Network of Promise, Inc. who donated all these things to help pay for some of his transportation costs in getting all the things to the warehouse.  A special thanks to Vance, Sharon, and William for their hard work.

Orton Queen, who works closely with us, gave me fourteen brand new T-shirts today he recently purchased from Cypress Gardens for me to give to children overseas.  Orton, thank you so much.

Dr. Strickland also gave us two pallets of paper products today; toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and feminine products.  Thank you so much Dr. Strickland and Network of Promise, Inc.

Dennison Attacher Gun

Ah Ha, you are asking, What is a Dennison Attacher Gun?  Good question.  Remember I told you a man phoned me and asked if I wanted pallets of toilet paper and MREs?  The man's name is Dr. Johnny Strickland.  He is the President of Network of Promise and works closely with the Pen Fla Men's Ministry.  Yesterday he gave us three pallets of ladies shoes, four pallets of children's socks, and a pallet of little girl's panties.  When we opened the boxes of socks, we discovered that the socks were folded together in pairs.  But I knew that when those socks reached their destination, the socks would be poured out on tables and scattered to the winds.  So we started folding the pairs of socks together like you do in your dresser drawer.  Today, Sharon, Vance's wife said, When these socks get overseas, people will open each pair so they can see what size they are and we will still be faced with socks scattered everywhere.  She suggested we purchase a Dennison Attacher Gun, a little plastic pistol that attaches items with a little piece of plastic wire, like when you buy clothes, the stickers have those little plastic wires.  So we purchased two Dennison Attacher Guns today and 20,000 attachers.  We are putting 300 pairs of socks in each box and today barely made a dent in the pallets of socks.  But at least the socks will stay together.  Glory!  Thank you Dr. Johnny Strickland and Network of Promise, Inc. for all these wonderful things to send overseas.
